This page explains what Every Line Item (everylineitem.com) collects and what we do with it. Short version: we collect as little as we can, we do not sell your information to contractors, and you can unsubscribe or ask us to delete what we hold.
Who we are
Every Line Item publishes line-item cost breakdowns for California ADU and residential construction. Contact for privacy or corrections: corrections@everylineitem.com.
What we collect
Email (benchmark sheet)
If you subscribe on Benchmarks, we collect the email address you submit so we can send the quarterly benchmark CSV and related updates. Email delivery is handled by Buttondown. You can unsubscribe from any email we send, or ask us to remove your address.
The blank six-phase worksheet does not require an email.
Server and hosting logs
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like most sites, request logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps, URLs) may be processed briefly for security, reliability, and abuse prevention. We do not use those logs to build marketing profiles.
Analytics and cookies
We do not currently run a third-party analytics suite that tracks you across the web for advertising. If we add analytics or display advertising later, this page will be updated before (or when) that happens, and ad/analytics vendors may set cookies as described below.
Forms and email
Messages you send to corrections@everylineitem.com are used only to respond and, if relevant, to update published figures under our Corrections policy.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your information to contractors. No lead forms, no “get matched with a builder,” no paid data sharing with builders, lenders, or referral networks.
- We do not sell personal information as that term is commonly used in consumer privacy laws.
- We do not require an account to read the site.

Sharing
We share data only with processors that help us run the site (for example Cloudflare for hosting/CDN, Buttondown for email). They are not permitted to sell your email as contractor leads.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the site against abuse.
Cookies and future advertising
Essential cookies or local storage may be used for basic site functions (for example remembering light/dark theme).
If we enable display advertising (as noted on About), ad partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. You can limit many ad cookies through your browser settings and industry opt-out tools. We will update this policy when ads go live.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from Buttondown emails using the link in any message
- Email corrections@everylineitem.com to ask us to delete your subscriber record or answer privacy questions
- Clear cookies/local storage in your browser for this site
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes to how we use email or ads will be reflected here.
