This page explains what Every Line Item (everylineitem.com) collects and what we do with it. Short version: we collect as little as we can, we do not sell your information to contractors, and you can unsubscribe or ask us to delete what we hold.
Who we are
Every Line Item publishes line-item cost breakdowns for California ADU and residential construction. Contact for privacy or corrections: corrections@everylineitem.com.
What we collect
Email (benchmark sheet)
If you subscribe on Benchmarks, we collect the email address you submit so we can send the quarterly benchmark CSV and related updates. Email delivery is handled by Buttondown. You can unsubscribe from any email we send, or ask us to remove your address.
The blank six-phase worksheet does not require an email.
Server and hosting logs
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like most sites, request logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps, URLs) may be processed briefly for security, reliability, and abuse prevention. We do not use those logs to build marketing profiles.
Analytics and cookies
We use two privacy-friendly analytics services that do not use cookies or personal identifiers: Cloudflare Web Analytics (aggregate page-view data, no cookies) and Plausible Analytics (page-view measurement for everylineitem.com, cookieless and without cross-site tracking). We do not run analytics that tracks you across the web for advertising. If that changes, this page will be updated.
Forms and email
Messages you send to corrections@everylineitem.com are used only to respond and, if relevant, to update published figures under our Corrections policy.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your information to contractors. No lead forms, no “get matched with a builder,” no paid data sharing with builders, lenders, or referral networks.
- We do not sell personal information as that term is commonly used in consumer privacy laws.
- We do not require an account to read the site.

Sharing
We share data only with processors that help us run the site (for example Cloudflare for hosting, CDN, and aggregate web analytics; Buttondown for email). They are not permitted to sell your email as contractor leads.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the site against abuse.
Display advertising
This site is configured for display advertising through Google AdSense (publisher ID pub-9855716660139171). Ads will appear once the AdSense account for this site is approved; until then, no advertising is served. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. Google may use cookies or similar technologies to serve, personalize, and measure these ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings and read how Google uses data from partner sites at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can also limit many ad cookies through your browser settings and industry opt-out tools such as optout.aboutads.info and the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out.
Essential cookies or local storage may still be used for basic site functions (for example remembering light/dark theme).

California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to request deletion of your personal information, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell your personal information. Advertising cookies, when ads are served, are described under Display advertising above, and you can limit them with the opt-out tools listed there. To exercise any of these rights, email corrections@everylineitem.com with the subject “Privacy request”. We verify requests by replying to the address they came from and respond within the period required by law.
The data controller for this site is Every Line Item, reachable at the email address above.
Retention
We keep Buttondown subscriber records until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Messages sent to corrections@everylineitem.com are kept only as long as needed to verify and log the correction or answer the question.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes to how we use email or ads will be reflected here.
